Libbie Cornett - Black Star Photos
Elizabeth Ann "Libbie" Cornett was born in 1928,
so she is now 80 years old. This September 2008, she attended an Austin
Family Reunion in Kentucky and brought with her the scrapbook/album she kept as
a high school student at Black Star High School. She was in the graduating
Class of 1946. She is the youngest child of Elzie B. Cornett Sr. (the mine
Superintendant at Black Star in 1940) and Nannie Ellen Austin Cornett (she was
the daughter of Richard Ovander Austin, the Camp Manager at Black Star in the
1930's). They, the Cornett's, lived in the big house on the hill behind
the Black Star Baptist Church. After they left Black Star for Pineville,
the Aslinger family occupied this house in the 1950's. After graduation,
Libbie attended and graduated Anderson College in South Carolina. When she
returned to Pineville she married Dodie Collett from Pineville (Newtown),
Kentucky. Libbie, or Baby Sister, as the family called her, is second
cousin to Markley and I. I appreciate access to this scrapbook and I feel
sure that many of you will also, even those who are much younger will enjoy many
of the names and photos included.
